Slottet blev grundlagt i det 13. århundrede af benediktinermunke i Sainte-Croix Abbey. Château Carbonnieux er dermed en af de ældste ejendomme i Bordeaux-regionen. I 1956 købte Marc Perrin slottet, der i 1959 blev klassificeret som Cru Classé, for både sine røde og hvide vine.
I dag, har Eric og Philibert, Marc Perrins børnebørn, overtaget ansvaret og de fortsætter det bemærkelsesværdige arbejde, deres far Antony Perrin igangsatte. Carbonnieux har altid nydt godt af placeringen på et fint og naturligt drænet grusplateau. Inden for Pessac-Léognan appellation, er dette prestigefyldte terroir særdeles eftertragtet, og her produceres nogle af appellationens allerbedste vine, hvilket har været et anerkendt faktum i århundreder.

The 2017 Carbonnieux is dark and intense in the glass. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in this decidedly potent, Pessac-Léognan. Orange peel, incense, spice, sweet tobacco and cedar add a super appealing exotic flair as the 2017 builds with time in the glass. Another few years in bottle should help things come together even more fully.
This packs solid blackberry, red currant and boysenberry fruit paste flavors together, all inlaid with tar and licorice snap notes. A bold brambly edge infuses the finish with grip and energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2022 through 2035. 10,000 cases made. — JM
This has attractively fresh and ripe, cassis and blackcurrant aromas. The palate has measured shape and a supple, fleshy feel with plenty of depth to the cassis and blueberries. Drink or hold.
